Quick answer: the household grant on gov.uk today is the electric vehicle chargepoint grant, for people who rent or own a flat (gov.uk). gov.uk names the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) and the Domestic Recharge Scheme as its predecessors, and if you've already claimed the grant or either of those, you can't apply (gov.uk). Applications close on 31 March 2027 at 11:59pm (Find a Grant).

The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme: where it stands

On gov.uk, the EVHS now appears as a predecessor of the current grant, alongside the Domestic Recharge Scheme (gov.uk). The current grant pays 75% of the cost of buying and installing a socket, up to £500 (gov.uk). You can apply if all of these apply (gov.uk):

  • you live in a flat you own, including through shared ownership, or you rent a residential property
  • your home has its own private off-street parking space
  • you own or use an eligible vehicle

You can't apply if you live in a house you own, unless it has been converted into flats and you live in one of them (gov.uk). Homeowners: see EV chargepoint grant for homeowners.

OLEV grant: the name people still use

"OLEV grant" is a phrase many people still search for. The office named on today's grant pages is the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV), and applications for the household grant go to OZEV through Find a Grant (Find a Grant).

EVHS grant claimed before? It counts

gov.uk says you can't apply if you've already claimed the grant or its predecessors, the EVHS and the Domestic Recharge Scheme (gov.uk). OZEV decides each application.

OLEV approved installer: the term today

Today's grant pages talk about OZEV-authorised installers, and your quote must come from one (Find a Grant). gov.uk has a postcode search, Find an electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint installer. More on our OZEV approved installers page.

OLEV grant end date: is the OZEV grant ending?

Find a Grant gives the renters and flat owners grant a closing date of 31 March 2027 at 11:59pm (Find a Grant), and the landlord grant the same (Find a Grant). We don't know what, if anything, follows.

Who else the current grants cover

Residential landlords have a separate grant: 75% of the cost of buying and installing chargepoints, up to £500 per socket, for up to 200 sockets a year (gov.uk). See our landlord grant page. Homes with on-street parking have their own grant too (Find a Grant): see on-street EV charging in Cornwall.

Where this leaves you

We're an independent guide, not an installer. There are three honest ways to get a charger fitted:

  1. Book a national installer online. Companies such as Pod Energy sell the charger and installation together (affiliate link: we may earn a commission). If you're applying for the grant, the quote must come from an OZEV-authorised installer (Find a Grant).
  2. Find a local installer yourself with gov.uk's Find an electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint installer search.
  3. Ask us for an introduction. If we pass your details to a local installer, your confirmation email names the firm. Installers may pay us for introductions; it does not change your price. Ask for an introduction.

Not sure where you stand? Use the grant checklist. The full rules are in our OZEV grant guide, and typical prices are in the Cornwall cost guide.
