Most Cornwall holiday-let owners offer charging free as an amenity — it converts bookings and the overnight cost on Octopus Intelligent Go (around 5.5p/kWh off-peak at time of writing) is £4-£6 for a typical guest full-charge. If you do want to bill, OCPP-enabled chargers (Easee, Project EV, some Wallbox models) pair with back-office platforms that handle RFID/app billing, but the friction usually loses more bookings than the billed kWh recovers.
Generally no: holiday lets do not qualify for the home chargepoint grants; the Workplace Charging Scheme is open to small accommodation businesses (up to £500 per socket, 40 sockets per applicant), see gov.uk. However, the install is a fully deductible business expense against let income (under FHL rules where the property qualifies, or under standard property-business rules otherwise). Consult your accountant on capital allowances vs revenue treatment.
Tethered is strongly preferred for holiday lets — most guests don't travel with their own Type 2 cable, and a socket-only unit just causes confusion and one-star reviews. The downside (cable can be stolen) is rare in practice; the upside (plug-and-charge for any guest) is decisive.
Critical to get right. Specify IP54-rated minimum (most quality chargers achieve this), stainless steel A2 or A4 fixings, marine-grade cable glands, and check the manufacturer's warranty position on coastal installs (some void warranty within 5km of sea unless specific install conditions are met). Zappi, Ohme ePod, Hypervolt Home 3 and Wallbox Pulsar Plus all have good coastal track records.
Yes — either a single tethered unit on a shared standing area, or multiple chargers sharing one MPAN via dynamic load balancing.
