What "OZEV approved" means for the grant
gov.uk uses both phrases: "OZEV-authorised installer" on the household grant's apply page (gov.uk) and "installer approved by the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles" on the landlord grant's (gov.uk). Both link to the same installer search. For you, the installer matters at three points:
- The quote. Find a Grant asks you to get a quote from an OZEV-authorised installer before applying, and to upload it (Find a Grant).
- The decision. If you're eligible, OZEV lets you and your installer know (Find a Grant).
- The invoice and claim. The installer deducts the grant from your invoice, then claims it (Find a Grant).
Landlords need the same: the landlord grant's application starts with a quote from an OZEV-authorised installer (Find a Grant).
What it doesn't mean: the installer doesn't make your application. You do, on Find a Grant (Find a Grant).
How to check an installer is OZEV-authorised
- Open gov.uk's Find an electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint installer and search with your postcode.
- Ask the installer which business name they're listed under, and look for it in the results.
- Do this before you upload their quote, because the quote must come from an OZEV-authorised installer (Find a Grant).
The same goes for any installer, including one we introduce you to: check them on gov.uk yourself.
OZEV installers near me in Cornwall
Use your own postcode in gov.uk's search. We don't list or rank installers on this page. If you'd rather we passed your details to one local installer, ask for an introduction below: your confirmation email names the firm.
What the grant pays
The grant pays 75% of the cost of buying and installing a socket, up to £500 (gov.uk). It is for people who rent or own a flat, with their own private off-street parking space and an eligible vehicle (gov.uk). Typical installation prices are in our Cornwall cost guide.
Before you choose an installer
Check the grant fits you first: the grant checklist takes a couple of minutes. Then get any permissions you need (Find a Grant); our permission letter helps renters and flat owners. The full process is in how to apply.
Frequently asked questions
What is an OZEV approved installer?
An installer listed in gov.uk's chargepoint installer search. The household grant pages call them OZEV-authorised installers and link to that search (gov.uk).
Does my installer apply for the grant?
No. Find a Grant asks you to apply (Find a Grant). The installer provides the quote and, after installation, deducts the grant from your invoice and claims it (Find a Grant).
Can any electrician fit a grant-funded charger?
For the grant, the quote must come from an OZEV-authorised installer (Find a Grant).
Do you recommend an installer?
We don't name installers on this page. You can search gov.uk yourself, or ask us for an introduction, and your confirmation email will name the firm we pass your details to.
Where this leaves you
We're an independent guide, not an installer. There are three honest ways to get a charger fitted:
- Book a national installer online. Companies such as Pod Energy sell the charger and installation together (affiliate link: we may earn a commission). If you're applying for the grant, the quote must come from an OZEV-authorised installer (Find a Grant).
- Find a local installer yourself with gov.uk's Find an electric vehicle (EV) chargepoint installer search.
- Ask us for an introduction. If we pass your details to a local installer, your confirmation email names the firm. Installers may pay us for introductions; it does not change your price. Ask for an introduction.
Not sure where you stand? Use the grant checklist. The full rules are in our OZEV grant guide, and typical prices are in the Cornwall cost guide.
