Launceston (PL15) sits on the Devon border and serves a heavily agricultural hinterland — Lifton, Lewannick, Altarnun, Egloskerry, North Hill and South Petherwin. Launceston sits on the A30 at the Devon border, so a lot of local driving is longer-distance up-country travel. That makes home charging capacity and overnight tariffs more relevant here than short-hop urban charging patterns.
The agricultural properties around Egloskerry, Tregadillett, South Petherwin and Lewannick often have outbuildings, existing sub-mains and sometimes a three-phase supply. That can allow faster charging or multiple units, but it needs establishing at survey rather than assumed.

The OZEV household chargepoint grant covers 75% of buying and installing a socket, up to £500, and closes on 31 March 2027. It is for people who rent their home or own and live in a flat, whose home has its own private off-street parking, and who own, lease or have ordered an eligible vehicle. People who own and live in a house are not eligible. Landlords have a separate grant of up to £500 per socket, but not for a property only used as holiday accommodation. Businesses use the Workplace Charging Scheme (up to £500 per socket, up to 40 sockets). You apply yourself, with a quote from an OZEV-authorised installer: check any installer you use is on the government's authorised list.
Most straightforward 7kW home installs in Launceston take 3-5 hours on the day, from arrival to commissioning. Trickier jobs — long cable runs, consumer-unit upgrades, three-phase work or load-balancing across multiple chargers — can run a full day or split across two visits. The pre-install survey (often remote, by photos and a few questions) takes 10-15 minutes.
For 95% of homes in Launceston, 7kW is the right answer. A 7kW charger adds around 25-30 miles of range per hour — more than enough for an overnight top-up. 22kW requires a three-phase supply, which most domestic properties don't have, and upgrading from single-phase costs thousands. 22kW makes sense for workplaces, holiday lets with high turnover, or homes that already have three-phase (sometimes seen on older rural Cornish farms).

Not with the household grant: it needs private off-street parking at your home. A separate on-street grant exists for households that get a permanent cross-pavement solution, highways consent and planning permission approved, and Cornwall Council runs its own cross-pavement channel scheme. All four appear on OZEV's eligible chargepoint list (check the exact model). Zappi (Myenergi, made in Stafford) is the pick if you have solar — its eco modes divert spare solar into the car. Easee is compact, modular and Norwegian-built — popular for multi-charger setups. Ohme has the slickest integration with Octopus Intelligent Go for cheap overnight charging (around 7p/kWh off-peak at time of writing). Pod Point is the legacy UK brand — reliable, app-driven, widely supported. Hypervolt and Wallbox are also fitted. The Tesla Wall Connector Gen 3 is on the same list for residential grants.
Check the government’s authorised installer list: the grant needs a quote from an OZEV-authorised installer, and only they can claim the grant payment. Also look for work to BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 Section 722 and the IET Code of Practice for EV Charging Equipment Installation, 5th Edition, plus NICEIC or NAPIT registration and insurance. The survey prices it per metre.
